Schiermonnikoog Island and Wadden Sea Cruise

  • 12 hours

Enjoy a full day getting to know a different side of Amsterdam. You'll visit a fishing village, travel to Schiermonnikoog Island and see the famous Wadden seals. An incredible experience!

Itinerary

After meeting at the indicated time at Amsterdam River Cruise Dock, you'll start your tour driving through the Dutch countryside. Along the journey, you'll be able to see farms, fishing villages and windmills.

The tour's first stop will be the thirty kilometre long causeway which connects North Holland with the Wadden Sea. Contemplate this strange structure that runs through the middle of the sea, and see the IJesselmeer, a lake formed by the dike's construction.

Your drive will continue to Lauwersoog Harbour, where you'll board a boat which will take you out to the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO protected natural World Heritage Site. The area is an important stopover point for millions of migrating birds, and it's a great place for seal spotting.

As the boat sails through the Wadden Sea, you'll near the wetlands and marshes that are so characteristic of this area of Holland. From the deck, enjoy the incredible experience of watching several different species of grey seals, porpoises and other animals. Don't forget to take photos!

After saying farewell to the seals, the boat will head towards Schiermonnikoog Island. Here you'll be able to truly appreciate the amazing biodiversity of the island's National Park as you visit its sand dunes, beaches, marshes and forests. Afterwards, you'll have some free time to explore the historic 17th century village of Schiermonnikoog at your own pace.

To put the finishing touch on this exciting tour, you'll enjoy a delicious meal on the boat deck, including local fish, meat and other fresh produce. With sated appetites, you'll make the journey back to Amsterdam.
