The climate in Amsterdam is very similar to the weather conditions in London. The monthly weather averages are between 1 and 2 degrees (Celsius) below the British capital, and it rains a little more than in the south of the United Kingdom.
Summer in Amsterdam
In June, July and August, the warmest months of the year, the average low temperatures are between 10ºC (51.4ºF) and 12ºC (53.6ºF). During these months, the average highs are between 20ºC (68ºF) and 22ºC (71.6ºF). It also rains less in summer than the rest of the year.
Most travellers visit Amsterdam between June and September, since it rains less and the climate is more agreeable than in winter. Visitors who decide to see the city during these months will find the streets packed with people.
Winter in Amsterdam
In Amsterdam, the coldest months of the year are December, January and February. On the coldest days, the average lows reach 0ºC (33ºF) and the average highs are between 5ºC (42ºF) and 7ºC (44.6ºF).
If you visit the city in winter, snowfall is very probable.
The Best Time to Visit Amsterdam
Although there are more tourists in summer and the hotels are more expensive, it's still our favourite time of year to visit Amsterdam.
If you'd prefer to visit the city when it's a bit quieter and skip the coldest months, we suggest booking your flights for April, May and October.
