Cruises from Amsterdam
Amsterdam has an extremely important cruise port. Each year it moves over 300,000 people and over 150 ships moor at its docks.
Amsterdam’s cruise port is very close to the city center, only 1,640 ft (500 m) from Amsterdam Centraal Station. The passenger terminal is very modern and offers all the possible services. The easiest way to get to the terminal is to take trams 25 and 26.
Nearby Ports
As well as the Amsterdam Port, the Netherlands has two other major ports: Rotterdam and Ijmuiden.
The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe. It has gained importance thanks to its strategic location, on the North Sea, where two of the largest European navigable rivers the Rhine and the Moselle River flow into. It takes around 1.5 hours to get to the port from Amsterdam by public transport.
Holland’s other cruise port is situated in Ijmuiden. The most-popular cruise companies dock their ships at Felison Terminal, which is also accessible from Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It takes less than one hour and a half to get to from the capital, and two hours from Rotterdam. If your ship departs in the morning, we suggest you take a taxi or book a transfer service.

The Baltics and the Fjords are the most popular destinations from these three ports. The beautiful cities of Copenhagen, Helsinki, Saint Petersburg and Tallin are magnificent visits, as well as the majestic nature of the fjords and the white nights.
In the last few years, cruises to Britain and Ireland have become very popular. Some of the top places include Dublin, The Highlands and Northern Ireland.
Iceland hides breathtaking and unique landscape due to its volcanic origins. It is one of the most surprising destinations.
When to Travel?
Cruises from Amsterdam have a very short season, between May and September, since it gets very cold during winter and not very enjoyable.
When to Book?
If you want to visit Northern European ports, as the cruise season is very short, we recommend you book as far in advance as possible. This is especially important if you're travelling with children, as multiple cabins are very limited. In addition, cruise lines often offer great discounts and added value by booking during their early booking campaigns, which are usually between November and February.
