This windmills tour leaves Amsterdam behind and steps back in time as you head to the serene Dutch countryside for a taste of the real Zaanse Schans experience.
The tour leaves the centre of Amsterdam at 8:15 in the morning, hitting the road to the north of Holland, where we'll visit its quaint villages.
The first stop will be Zaanse Schans globally renowned for its perfectly preserved antique windmills. One of the symbols of Holland itself, these still working structures are visitable to this day. And in Zaanse Schans we'll also visit a clog factory, and a Dutch cheesemaker, learning all about the production of these products, with 45 minutes of free time to explore the surroundings.
To immerse yourselves in all things Dutch we'll head to Edam, a city known for its famous round cheeses, as well as being one of the largest ports in the country.
Then we hit the road to Volendam, where you'll have about an hour of free time. On the way, we'll cross the polders - the name given to the lowlands reclaimed from the sea. And Volendam itself is sure to enchant, thanks to its coloured houses, winding streets and cute port.
Having explored the village we'll hop on the bus and head to Marken, a peninsula found jutting out onto the IJsselmeer lake. And there we'll take an hour-long guided tour, exploring its picturesque streets and squares, as well as its incredible architecture.
With the tour over, we'll begin our journey back to Amsterdam.
